For using texts with nikud, installation of a Unicode font on the
Pocket PC is absolutely required - for installation instructions
see here.

To install it, download the hebrewreader.exe file to
the desktop PC, put the pocket PC into the cradle, make sure
that Windows Mobile Device Center or ActiveSync is started and start the hebrewreader.exe
file on your desktop PC.
Note for Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC devices: When a
confirmation message appears that the application is from
an unknown vendor, acknowledge it with Yes.
If an error message appeared during installation that the
Hebrew Reader could not be started, execute the
hebrewreader.exe file again to install it a second
time (it will be overwritten automatically).

Frequently Asked Questions
How to install Unicode fonts on the pocket PC.

Suitable fonts are e.g. Arial, Tahoma or Times New
Roman (not supplied with the Hebrew/Yiddish Reader) which are present in newer
desktop Windows versions or downloaded from Microsoft

The desired font(s) have to be copied from the C:\Windows\Fonts
or C:\Winnt\Fonts folder on the desktop PC into the \Windows\Fonts
folder on the pocket PC by the user.
This can be done via the following instructions for users with
Windows Mobile Device Center:
- on the desktop PC, start Windows Mobile Device Center
- go with the mouse cursor to File Management
- click on Browse the contents on your device
- click on \ and then on My Documents
- click on the desktop screen on My Computer, C:, WINDOWS, FONTS
- copy the font from the desktop PC to the Pocket PC via Drag&Drop
- on the Pocket PC, start File Explorer
- tap on icon looking like a Pocket PC and select My Device
- tap on My Documents
- tap on the font to copy a longer time and select Cut
- tap on icon looking like a Pocket PC and select My Device
- tap on Windows and then on Fonts
- tap in the area where the files are displayed a longer time
- tap on Paste
Users of ActiveSync have to follow these instructions:
- click on the desktop PC on My Computer, C:, WINDOWS, FONTS
- open the Fonts folder on your Pocket PC via the following instructions
- using a device with Windows CE 3.0, Pocket PC 2002 or Pocket PC 2003
- click in ActiveSync on Explore, My Device, Windows, Fonts
- using a device with Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC
- click in ActiveSync on Explore, My Windows Mobile-Based
Device, enable displaying of hidden files and folders if
necessary and click on Windows, Fonts
- Displaying of hidden files and folders can be enabled by clicking
on the menu Tools, menu item Folder Options,
then on tab View, scrolling in the list
Advanced Settings down to the item
Hidden files and folders and select the radio button
Show Hidden Files and Folders.
- drag a font from the desktop PC to the Pocket PC

After copying the font(s) from the desktop PC to the pocket PC,
click in the Hebrew/Yiddish Reader for Windows CE on Font, Font Name...,
Unicode and select the copied font in the combobox.
Solution to problem:
Word or Excel documents which are synchronized with the Pocket PC
appear as "garbage" in Hebrew letters.

If synchronizing a MS Word or MS Excel document which uses a
font which is
not present on the pocket PC, then the pocket PC uses an arbitrary font
and that could be the Hebrew font which the calendar program uses.
This problem can be fixed by copying the fonts used in the desktop PC document
from the Fonts folder on the desktop PC (C:\WINDOWS\FONTS or
C:\WINNT\FONTS)
to the fonts Folder on the pocket PC (\Windows\Fonts).
Solution to problem:
The text My info which is displayed when the Pocket PC is turned on
is displayed as "garbage" in Hebrew letters.

When the Pocket PC is turned on and the text My info
is displayed as garbage in Hebrew letters, the problem can be solved by removing
the file
NEWCOMH1.TTF
from your pocket PC which is located in the
\Windows\Fonts
folder using the File Explorer of the pocket PC
When using a Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC device and if the file
cannot be removed because it is in use, perform the following
steps:
- take the Pocket PC out of the cradle
- perform a soft reset
- start the File Explorer again
- go to the Fonts directory
- rename the font e.g. to
DeleteFont
- delete the renamed font

How can I create a text which can be read by the Hebrew Reader?

The text can be created as a plain text file in Windows Hebrew
codepage 1255 format which can be read by the Hebrew Reader.

Such a file can be created e.g. in Microsoft Word 2007*) by selecting in
the Save File dialog box in the combobox Save as type the
entry Plain Text (*.txt).
Then a dialog appears where you click on Other Encoding and then
select Hebrew (Windows).
